GRFD scholarships with a duration of 2.5 or 3 years are considered dedicated and these students must serve in the National Guard or Army Reserve when commissioned. These scholarships cover the full tuition fees and mandatory fees. Fellows also receive a book stipend and a monthly scholarship. Scholarships can be awarded in instalments of up to three years. These cadets also receive weekend drills and annual training stipends as participants in the Concurrent Membership Program (PGS). There are two essential steps to validate a 3-year AD scholarship: 1. A cadet student must achieve a cumulative average of 2.5 and a ROTC cumulative average of 3.0 by the end of year 1. 2. Pass the Army Fitness Test (APFT).
After a cadet student has received a scholarship (of any kind), he/she must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 (semester and cumulative) to include ROTC and pass the Army Fitness Test (APFT) to retain the scholarship. (See the contract for more information). Fellows receive a book grant of $1,200 per year and a monthly tax-free scholarship. GRFD Fellows cannot request the conversion or cancellation of their GRFD Scholarship Contracts. If you are selected for a GRFD fellowship, you will be required to sign a GRFD contract upon commissioning, which guarantees service in the U.S. Army National Guard or Reserve. As mentioned at the beginning of the Army ROTC contract, entering a ROTC program as a fellow is a serious commitment and must be made with the decision to receive a commission. They warn that if there are doubts about your ability and determination to fulfill the terms of the contract, it must not be performed.

For a cadet who signs his first day as a recruit, these scholarships amount to about $15,000 over four years and $12,500 for those who contract on the first day of their second year. They are awarded on the basis of high academic achievements, outstanding achievements in athletics and proven leadership skills. After graduating from the University of North Georgia, Army Rotc Fellows will serve as officers in the Regular Army, Army National Guard, or Army Reserve. Note: For residents of Georgia eligible for the HOPE Scholarship, it can be used in conjunction with an Army ROTC Scholarship. Hope can only be applied to teaching. The Army ROTC Scholarship can be used to pay for rooms and meals.
Residents of Georgia who receive the ROTC scholarship will receive up to $2,000 in grants from the State of Georgia at the end of each semester after the end of the contract. Fellows receive the full tuition and student and laboratory fees, $1,200/year for books and utilities and a monthly stipend of $300/month for the first year, $350/month for second-year students, $450/month for juniors and $500/month for seniors. Note that contracted SMP cadets cannot be used. On-campus scholarships are offered to students who have not been offered or who have not applied for the High School ROTC Scholarship or the Green to Gold program. These scholarships are extremely limited and can last between 2 and 4 years. Scholarships pay the full tuition fees and mandatory fees for both resident and non-resident students. The 3-year Advance Designee Scholarship only pays for 3 years of university.
In the first year, the student is financially responsible for teaching and is considered a “validation year”. All scholarship or contract cadets and cadets enrolled in the advanced course (juniors and seniors) are eligible for a legally authorized scholarship (living allowance). The scholarship is $420/month for all scholarships and contract cadets during the school year, regardless of SP level. Those who receive scholarships from the military choose between funding tuition through the military or paying for accommodation and food. This choice is displayed if the initial contract is signed and reconfirmed each year at the beginning of the autumn semester. This type of scholarship is awarded to high school graduates who will soon graduate or receive an equivalent certificate. Competition for these scholarships is fierce as more than 6,000 students from across the country compete for them. Students can sign a contract with Army ROTC without a scholarship. Students are entitled to this opportunity with six semesters remaining to complete their degree.
