WHO IS EVAN ANNETT?
"Beauty is truth, truth beauty; that is all Ye know on earth, and all you need to know." -John Keats, Ode to a Grecian Urn
Truth and beauty are the two foundations of journalism. It is the reporter's job to uncover truth, and to present the day's affairs in crystal-clear writing; it is the copy editor's job to correct reporters' copy and lay it out in a neat and attractive way, making the news beautiful without distorting the facts.
Over the years, I've tried to become the best journalist I can be, and Keats' insight has been my guiding principle. As a reporter, I am careful to ensure that my newspaper copy is both meticulously researched and beautifully written. As a copy editor, I work hard to produce thoroughly fact-checked copy and attractive layout. I've worked at many different newspapers, but wherever I am, I remember this: In journalism, beauty and truth are inseparable.

EDUCATION
I chose to study at Carleton University's College of Humanities (www.carleton.ca/chum) so I could become a polished writer, a critical thinker and a well-rounded person. But I've also honed my journalism skills at many different newspapers, from the Ottawa Citizen to a corporate newspaper in Atlanta, Georgia.
My most valuable experience in journalism has been at the Charlatan, Carleton's independent student newspaper (www.charlatan.ca). The Charlatan was a very friendly and supportive newsroom, where I had the chance to be a reporter, copy editor, section editor, photographer and occasional proxy to the board of directors. I spearheaded a two-year campaign to reform the newspaper's constitution. I'm also writing a book about the newspaper's history.
