Over the years we've collected numerous photographic records pertaining mainly to the Annett family descended from Rolphe who arrived in England c.1555 from the Low Countries. Included below are a random selection which I hope you find of interest.Â
Two pictures taken while on holiday in Northumberland. Druridge Bay was the landing point for the brothers Rolphe and Rowland Annett on fleeing from the Spanish inquisition taking place on the mainland of Europe c.1555.
The town of Alnwick home to many Annett's and still associated with the family. Shown here are the town gate on the left and a distant view of Alnwick castle on the right. For those of you interested in game fishing a major employer in the town is 'The House Of Hardy', famous for producing the world's finest fishing rods and reels.
Alnmouth was long associated with Annett's who traded from what was once a thriving, bustling port. Ralph Annett (1760-1836) was an importer of Ruta Baga (swede) seed from Gothenburg and was an early Methodist. John Wesley was known to have been a guest of the family.
The Annett family have since the first arrivals lived in the towns and villages around Druridge Bay and indeed there are members of the family still there. Morpeth, Shilbotel are two of the villages which are associated with the family and are featured in these photographs.
